Abstract. Russian companies show greater interest in international best practices in the field of technology enterprise management and are actively looking for the ways to build efficient production systems. One such system is the concept of lean production. Today almost in all industries in the advanced countries the concept of Lean manufacturing is a recognized strategy to reduce production costs, to improve product competitiveness, and to gain leading positions in the market. The basic idea of lean production is to identify and exclude from the process all unnecessary actions and operations that do not participate in the value creation of products for the client, and only increase their costs. It is an extremely progressive idea which has no analogies in other production systems. This concept allows obtaining a synergistic effect when its use is integrated with the quality management system. In lean manufacturing the most important thing is not a technique, but the people and the ability of company management to build a system of continuous engagement and motivation of staff. You must correctly use the human factor – all employees must become participants and allies in the implementation of lean manufacturing rather than opponents or onlookers. The approach of lean manufacturing requires adaptation to specific circumstances no matter in which field it is applied. However, its application in organizations of any level will allow to significantly improve efficiency, to reduce non-production losses, and to improve the competitiveness of enterprises, the region and the country as a whole.

Key words: production competitiveness, lean production, quality management, managerial innovations, staff management.
